An e-book (electronic book) is a digital device that has the same purpose than the convencional books, but it includes accesories which you can not enjoy with the printed ones.

What are the advantages of a digital book?

Se llega a un punto en el libro digital en el que acabas pudiendo bajarte de todo. Esta web permite que te descarga clásicos grecolatinos, pero la página ofrece mucho más que eso. Todo esto es un modo de decir que el papel y el boli comienza a quedarse atrás, la imprenta parece algo de hace décadas y lo que ahora se lleva es lo cómo y útil: los eBooks.

Y así, cantidad de objetos, sucesos y actividades que se dan en el espacio tridimensional pasan al espacio digital. Cada vez más cosas, operaciones y sucesos de nuestro mundo —cartas, papeleras, juegos, comunicación, dinero, mercadeo…— están ya en el espacio digital. Y esto es sólo el comienzo, porque, sin caer en visiones futuristas exageradas, las posibilidades de absorción son ilimitadas. El libro también sufre esa atracción y pasa al otro lado de la pantalla.

Un libro digital es cualquier texto almacenado en formato digital que se puede copiar y leer en una PC, computadora portátil o los recientes dispositivos portables de eBook. Estos libros se pueden leer mediante programas denominados lectores.
Diversos dispositivos pueden ser utilziados como eBook: un PC, una PDA, un portátil, y en general cualquier dispositivo que poseea una pantalla y memoria.

Sin embargo, a finales de la primera decada del siglo XXI, comenzaron a aparecer dispositivos cuya función era servir exclusivamente de eBook.

Así se buscó: movilidad y autonomía (dispositivos móviles con bajo consumo de energía para permitir lecturas prolongadas sin necesidad de recargas), pantallas con unas dimensiones suficientes para mostrar documentos tradicionales (un A4 o un A5) y alto nivel de contraste incluso a plena luz del día.
